Each year we honor officers, civilians, DAPS, and Explorers for their
efforts above and beyond the call of duty.  These are 2007's finest!

David Bambrick - Officer of the Year
A ten year veteran of the Department, Officer Bambrick served in the elite Gang Enforcement
Detail that targets hard-core gang members in the Pacific Area.  Because of his many
contributions to the GED effort in reducing gang violence, Bambrick was chosen to work as a
Field Training Officer where he is molding future leaders of our Department by instilling his
tactics and expertise in new recruits from the academy.

Bob Arellano - LAX Officer of the Year
Officer Arrellano's team efforts at Tom Bradley International Terminal helped to greatly reduce
theft-related crime within the terminal.  Based on his demonstrated ability and commitment, he
was selected to fill an opening in the Airport Crimes Investigation Unit and involved in several
surveillance operations that resulted in numerous arrests and convictions.  He also developed a
lecture and video addressing airport crime prevention that he has presented to several airport
businesses.

Willie Jordan - LAX Officer of the Year
Officer Jordan was recently assigned as the Crime Coordinator for Area One at LAX, which
includes Terminals 1, 2, and 3, and encompasses one of the busiest sections of the airport.
He combined his own highly developed knowledge of airport crime with the LAX Field Service
Division personnel assigned  as investigators.  Currently, statistics in Area One reported crimes
have decreased 68%.

Martin Greenblatt - Reserve Officer of the Year
Martin Greenblatt was an attorney in Boston, MA for more than 40 years before becoming a
Specialist Reserve Officer.  He completed Basic Detective Course in the top 10% and the Robert
Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation Core Course in the upper tier of the class.  The ICI
course is an intense and extensive hands on course that requires the participants to write
search warrants, conduct thorough investigations, analyze  crime scenes and testify in court.
He is the first reserve in the history of both the LAPD and ICI to have received this training and
is currently handling financial elder abuse cases.

Ivett Garay - Detective of the Year
Detective Garay has been a Supervisory Major Assault Crimes Investigator and Juvenile Unit
Supervisor during this past year.   She is extremely patient and respectful in her interactions
with the parents or arrested juveniles and has developed many important relationships  with
support agencies and the court system.  She has also organized and implemented a tracking
system for the suspected Child Abuse Reports, eliminating the backlog and upgrading and
streamlining the process.

Pete Lopez - Detective of the Year
As a consummate team player, Detective Lopez has proven himself to be a very effective
trainer of the Auto Table detectives.  He is the main detective who interacts with the public
impound issues - and last fiscal year, there were 5,197 impounds in Pacific Division and it
seems that every one of those registered owners came to the desk and spoke to Detective
Lopez.

Richard Parks - Supervisor of the Year
Sgt. Parks is an exemplary supervisor who can deliver the Department's message of change in
a positive light.  He continues to keep officers happy and motivated to the best of his ability.
He always maintains a positive attitude and his good nature and friendly personality ensure
that good morale is maintained and productivity stays as high as possible.

Steve Villanueva - Civilian of the Year
For over a year, Steve Villanueva  worked alone running he Pacific Area Crime Analysis Unit,
taking on the work of three people.  He performed his duties in an exemplary manner and
never complained about his mountainous workload.  He cam to work every day and battled his
tasks in a timely and expert manner.  Since this was his first assignment within the LAPD, he
also had to contend with adapting to an entirely new culture and work product requirement.
